Fall Protection: Fundamentals for General Industry-Virtual

Whenever any worker in General Industry is exposed to fall-hazards of at least four-feet, OSHA requires that employers ensure employees are protected by conventional fall protection. Although a variety of fall protection systems are available, each situation is unique, and the systems available and permitted may be limited. More importantly, employers must ensure that employees are protected by properly selecting, designing and implementing a proper fall-protection system. This course is intended for competent persons, as well as managers, supervisors, leads, and safety personnel, to understand the various fall protection systems, OSHA’s requirements under 29 CFR 1910 Subpart D, and the responsibilities of designated competent person(s). Topics include:
  • Overview of fall hazards
  • Requirements for differing fall-hazard conditions
  • Principles and design of guardrail systems, personal fall-arrest systems, positioning device systems, travel-restraint systems, safety-net systems and covers
  • Rooftops
  • Stairways and ships-ladders
  • Fixed and portable ladders
